Google News With A Suggestive Twist |

Lucky us! Googler Jon McAlister has spent some of
his Google free time working on a Google Suggest solution for Google
News, and now we can try it out at http://news.google.com/news?complete=1. Currently Google News Suggest is for English only. It works like the Web version of Google Suggest -- start entering your query and a dropdown menu will appear with suggestions. I did a search for baseball and got several variations on the Durham Bulls player who got ejected for throwing a bat into an umpire's chest. Strangely enough I also got a couple of suggestions for variations on the phrase "base jumper". This might also help with spelling too. I can't spell Kaavya Viswanathan, but as I began entering her name I got as far as Kaa before Google News Suggest jumped in with the full name and several variants of relevant searches. I hope Google integrates this into the News search already. It's nice. And hey, while we're sitting here looking at Google News, does anybody believe that Google News searches only 4500 sources? The source number has been 4500 for months. I would guess it's a lot more than that by now. Unfortunately I couldn't get Google News Suggest to suggest anything when I tried to get suggestions using special syntax (source:, etc.) |
